Belgaum Fort: Believed to have been built by the rulers of the Ratt Dynasty in 1204 AD, this fort features a fusion of Chalukyan, Deccan, and Indo-Saracenic art forms. The entrance is adorned with shrines of Goddess Durga and Ganapati. The fort houses numerous Hindu and Jain temples and mosques, and the Mukhamantaapa boasts an incredible lotus design. Historically, the fort served as an impenetrable barricade against enemy attacks and played host to various dynasties. It gained fame when Mahatma Gandhi was captured here during the Freedom Movement of India. The fort was built after demolishing 108 Jain temples and 101 Shiva temples, with stones and pillars incorporated into the fort's construction.
Kapileshwar Temple: A holy shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, considered the southern Kashi. Located beside the Shahpur Flyover, this temple is the starting point for the pilgrimage to the 12 Jyotirlingas scattered across India. The temple features a rare cluster of Banyan, Peepal, and Ficus trees in its compound. The temple is open to devotees from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM every day, providing a serene atmosphere for worship and reflection.
St. Mary’s Church: One of the most peaceful places to visit in Belgaum, this church was built during the British era and offers a glimpse into the colonial past of the city. The architecture and serene surroundings make it a significant historical and spiritual site.
Rajhansgad Yellur Fort: One of the most impressive historical places in Belgaum, this fort has been ruled by several royal clans, including the Marathas, Peshwas, Hoysalas, and Bahamanis. Perched high on a hill, the fort offers a challenging trek and spectacular views of the lush green surroundings. The fort complex includes a sweet water well and an ancient Shiva temple located at the hilltop, adding to its historical and spiritual significance.
After sightseeing, drive back to Goa and drop off at your hotel.
