Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Paro - Thimphu (55kms)

Upon arrival at Paro airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in Thimphu for check-in. Begin your exploration with a visit to the Memorial Chorten, a large stupa built in memory of Bhutan's third King, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. This iconic landmark is an important religious site and a hub for local worship. Next, visit Tashichho Dzong, a grand fortress that houses the throne room and offices of the King, as well as various government ministries. It is a prominent example of Bhutanese architecture and serves as a center for religious and administrative activities. Overnight at the hotel in Thimphu. Meal plan: Lunch, Dinner.

Day 2: Thimphu - Punakha (76kms)

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Punakha, passing through the Dochula Pass at 3100 meters altitude. On clear days, enjoy panoramic views of the eastern Himalayan mountain ranges, including Bhutan's highest peak, Mt. Gangkar Puensum. In the afternoon, hike up to Khamsum Yuley Namgyal Chorten, a stunning temple nestled amidst lush rice fields. The uphill hike takes approximately 45 minutes, offering serene views of the Punakha valley. The return downhill journey takes about 30 minutes. Visit Punakha Dzong, an architectural masterpiece situated at the confluence of the Pho-Chu (male) and Mo Chu (female) rivers. This fortress-monastery is renowned for its strategic location and intricate woodwork, making it one of Bhutan's most beautiful dzongs. Overnight at the hotel in Punakha. Day 3: Punakha - Paro (135kms)

After breakfast, visit Chhimi Lhakhang, also known as the Divine Madman's Monastery. This revered temple is famous for its fertility shrine, where couples seeking children come to receive blessings. Drive back to Thimphu and visit Kuenselphodrang, where you can marvel at the largest Buddha statue in Bhutan. The statue overlooks the Thimphu valley and is a symbol of peace and prosperity. Optionally, take a leisurely walk through Kuenselphodrang Nature Park, enjoying panoramic views of the Thimphu valley and the surrounding mountains. Overnight at the hotel in Paro. Day 4: Paro

Today, embark on a memorable day hike to Taktsang Monastery, also known as Tiger's Nest. The hike, which takes about 2-3 hours uphill through pine forests and traditional villages, leads you to this iconic monastery perched on a cliff 800 meters above the Paro valley floor. Taktsang Monastery is believed to be where Guru Padmasambhava (Buddhist master) meditated in the 8th century. It is a sacred site for Bhutanese Buddhists and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valley. After exploring Taktsang, return to Paro for relaxation and reflection on your journey through Bhutan's spiritual heritage. Overnight at the hotel in Paro. Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 5: Departure
