Pick-up from Paro airport & transfer to Thimphu (Alt. 2400m/7875ft). Check in at the hotel. Visit Thimphu market and explore the city by walk or visit Tashichho Dzong, presently houses the throne room and offices of the king, the secretariat and the ministries of home affairs and finance. Overnight at hotel in Thimphu.
AM: Visit National Memorial Chorten and Buddha Point for a panoramic view of the Thimphu valley. Drive to Punakha/Wangdue via Dochu La Pass (3,100 meters), enjoying spectacular views of Bhutan's highest mountains on a clear day. Visit Punakha Dzong, an architectural masterpiece at the confluence of the Po and Mo Chu Rivers. Overnight at hotel in Punakha/Wangdue.
Visit Chhimi Lhakhang in Punakha, a temple dedicated to fertility and blessings. Drive back to Paro, enjoying views of Shaba River Point and Paro airport. Check in at the hotel in Paro. Visit Rinpung Dzong (Paro Dzong), steeped in history and architectural brilliance. Overnight at hotel in Paro.
Begin the hike to Taktsang Monastery, perched on a cliff 800 meters above Paro Valley. The hike takes approximately 5 hours round trip. Explore Taktsang Monastery, a sacred site and a symbol of Bhutanese culture and spirituality. En route, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan's oldest and most sacred temples. Evening stroll in Paro town and visit local handicraft stores. Overnight at hotel in Paro.
