What you will do

Aurangabad's Heritage Gems: Caves, Mausoleums, and Historical Marvels

Pick up from your hotel for Aurangabad sightseeing.

Visit the Aurangabad Caves, a collection of twelve rock-cut Buddhist shrines nestled in a hill near Aurangabad. Carved out of soft basalt rock during the 6th and 7th centuries, these caves feature impressive chaitya halls and viharas with intricate carvings and sculptures, showcasing early Buddhist artistry and architectural techniques.

Explore Bibi Ka Maqbara, located about 5 kilometers from Aurangabad. Built in 1679 AD by Azam Shah, the son of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, this mausoleum is dedicated to Aurangzeb’s wife, Rabia-Durrani. Resembling the Taj Mahal, it is often called the "poor man's Taj Mahal" due to its more modest construction, yet it remains a striking example of Mughal architecture with its symmetrical layout and ornate marble decorations.

Visit the Panchakki, an ancient water mill built during the Mughal era, which served both as a grain mill and a water management system. The Panchakki is renowned for its sophisticated hydraulic engineering, featuring an underground water channel that powers the mill. The site includes a small mosque and a serene garden, highlighting the advanced water management techniques of the time.

Explore the small archaeological museum situated behind Bibi Ka Maqbara, which houses artifacts and exhibits related to the history and architecture of the monument. This museum provides further insight into the historical and cultural significance of the region during the Mughal era.
